BACK TO MY ROOTS

I've been on vacation in Guadalajara and Colima, Mexico for the past few days. Eventhough my mother's small home state of Colima lacks many of the modern ammenities we're spoiled with in the U.S., I have plenty of reasons to be happy. For the first time in about 13 years, I've been able to spend time with my only living grandparents and also my aunts and cousins. I've made the mistake of taking all of these incredible people for granted, but I'm grateful for these days I get to spend with them.

My 70 year old grandfather has 2 jobs, which he commutes to riding a rusty old bike through rock covered roads and sand. Despite doing this 7 days a week, he still has enough energy to do work around the house and make everyone laugh. It's ridiculous for me to complain about my life.

It's stories like this that help me reflect on how relatively easy we have it compared to others. It's good to get out of our comfort zone and experience life in a more simple way. I'm getting to know where my mother comes from, where I come from. Colima is a state surrounded with friendly people, beautiful beaches, coconut, lemon and mango trees, countless taco stands and restaurants, tranquilty and many other great things that I'll describe at a later time. My sister and I have been documenting our experiences through pictures, which I hope to share with anyone who reads this when I get back.

For now, I'll continue to make the best of the days I have left here.
